The North Country trail, which goes from North Dakota to Maine runs through the Homestead, offering excellent views foot steps away from the cabins.

Hogback Mountain

The Closest attraction from the Homestead is Hogback Mountain. A quick hike on the North Country Trail of .3 miles with a few hundred feet of elevation will bring you to the top. This is the tallest Mountain in Marquette with the best view of the entire area.

Lily Pond

The Second closest hike from the Homestead, accessable on the North Country Trail is Lily Pond. Only a mile away, Lily pond is surrounded by swamp land and offers great views as well as rock climbing and fishing. Check out Highway to Nowhere for rock climbing routes. 

Harlow Pond

At this site you can hike a trail through old-growth forest and around rugged rock outcroppings to a pristine bog habitat at Wetmore Pond. The pond is 3 miles away from the Homestead, located off Forestville Road/Country Road HD. The viewing opportunities from the bog observation platform are well worth the effort. During the spring and fall migrations, ducks and geese congregate on the bog, providing excellent viewing opportunities.

Wetmore Landing

Wetmore Landing, on the North Country Hiking Trail is a local favorite in the Marquette area. Beautiful beaches and swimming holes. It hugs the shoreline of Lake Superior on trails surrounded by huge pines and sweeping views of Lake Superior in all its glory. 

Top of The World

Top of the World is a rocky overlook which offers an incredible view. In the warm months, you can drive all the way to the trail head from Forestville Road/County Road HD (the main road you will take to get to the Homestead). Mountain biking, rock climbing, cross country skiing and hiking trails are accessible. 

Sugarloaf Mountain

Sugarloaf Mountain is one of the most popular scenic overlooks on the central Upper Peninsula coastline.  The Sugarloaf Mountain Natural Area consists of a 3,200 foot trail of pathway and stairway segments that lead to the mountain’s summit 470 feet above Lake Superior.  There are viewing platforms on the mountain’s summit which provide a spectacular view of the rugged coastline and surrounding forestlands for miles.

Black Rocks Brewery

A local Brewery named after a favorite cliff jumping spot on Presque Isle, Blackrocks has a wide variety of micro brews. Blackrocks is one of the biggest U.P. breweries and is one of the most popular night scene is Marquette.

Superior Culture

Craft fermentations sourced with local wild berries and herbs. Superior Culture offers Kombucha and Craft alcohol menu which constantly changes with the seasons. 

Lakeshore Depo

Farm to table grocery store stocked with all regional and local goods. Lakeshore Depo sells local in-season goods with reasonable prices.
